Rockwell Collins Delivers Secure Real Time Video to US Army Helicopters

Rockwell Collins announced this week they will be supporting the United States Army’s Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) operations by delivering its Secure Real Time Video (SRTV) solutions.

What this technology does is give helicopter pilots a real-time view of video taken by an Unmanned Aircraft System to use for their MUM-T operations. Rockwell Collins has installed a third-party Common Data Link transceiver to give them these capabilities. This will essentially give military pilots an extra set of eyes through the UAS.

The system is designed in such a way that will provide a smooth integration of video and mission data from the UAS to the pilots. Rockwell Collins’ Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) created an open system to allow for this. Thanks to the system, it can be installed quite easily on many other types of military helicopters.

CAAS is a fully integrated flight and mission management capability that allows for greater mission effectiveness. As industry standards are updated and new technology is available, they are evaluated and adopted in close collaboration with the DoD Services.

Officials at Rockwell Collins were proud to provide this technology to the US military, hoping the more efficient aviation products would make the country safer.

Giving army pilots access to real-time video streams in their cockpits will directly improve their ability to successfully execute missions more safely and efficiently. In addition, the proven, open systems architecture approach we use allows us to quickly deliver this capability to our other customers in a highly cost-effective manner,

said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager, airborne solutions, Rockwell Collins.

For over fifteen years, Rockwell Collins has been an industry leader in the use of open systems. Their flight deck systems featuring open system architectures have been selected for over 50 aircraft modernization programs worldwide and will be fielded on over 4,000 aircraft.
