Lockheed Martin’s VOSS Achieves US Army’s Program of Record

Lockheed Martin has reached the achievement of Milestone C with the United States Army for making their Vehicle Optics Sensor System (VOSS) program the standard sensor package on mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles.

This agreement makes Lockheed Martin the official Program of Record for the fiscal year of 2015. They will provide the engineering, production, and sustainment support.

Lockheed Martin is a longtime partner of the US Army, and this development shows how their time together has paid off.

“For more than eight years, Lockheed Martin has supported the urgent operational needs of the U.S. Army with VOSS’ mission critical surveillance capabilities,” stated Dana Rocca, turreted systems director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “It has been through close partnership with the U.S. Army that we were able to achieve this important milestone and keep vital technology in the hands of the warfighter.”

The VOSS that Lockheed Martin has developed uses 360-degree surveillance, can be used on-the-move, and has explosive hazard detection capability for route clearance and reconnaissance missions. Expeditionary systems can use any of Gyrocam’s optical sensor systems and relay images to remote command sites.

The primary systems that are used are the battle-tested 15-Inch Series and the more compact 9-Inch Series. Users can see through fog, haze, and in the dark with its advanced optical sensors and night vision capabilities.

Mission requirements frequently change, and the system was developed with this in mind. It is compatible with interchangeable universal mounts for land, airborne, maritime, and perimeter security applications. They are cost-effective, and are able to withstand and perform under harsh weather conditions. Lockheed Martin’s Gyrocam Systems designs, builds, and installs their systems to meet rigorous flight standards both in the United States and overseas.

Since 2006, more than 1,100 VOSS systems have been deployed with the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and NATO Coalition forces.
