Equatorial Guinea Acquires Two Airbus C-295 Aircraft

On February 10^th, 2016, Oscar Nkala of Defense News released an article talking about how the government of Equatorial Guinea had taken delivery of two Airbus C-295 aircrafts. The government of Equatorial Guinea has plans of sending of one of the two Airbus C-295 aircrafts for missions dealing with surveillance over the Economics Exclusive Zone or EZZZ which is on the Gulf of Guinea Island. The one Airbus C-295 has been marked and assigned for troop transportation in the deployment department.

According to the media in Malabo, there was a report last week that stated that Airbus Industries Defense and Space representatives met with the government at the company’s manufacturing plant in Seville in Spain.

The first of the Airbus C-295 aircrafts will ready to take delivery by September 2016.

The government released a statement that talks about the Republic of Equatorial Guinea wants to increase its safety measures. “This trip [was] in accordance with the desire of the government to strengthen security measures around the coastal areas of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea." The government then goes on ad talks about the usage of both aircrafts. "The government of Equatorial Guinea has acquired two military aircraft for the transportation of troops and the surveillance of national territory."

These additional aircrafts will help aid in the island nation’s air force. The island nation’s air force has a small fleet that consist of old Antonov AN-72 transport and four Sukhoi SU-25 combat aircrafts. Not only this, but they also have two aero Vodochody L-39 jet liners.

Equatorial Guinea is also planning missions with the United Nations in Africa where they are actively looking for new trainer, attack, and transport helicopters for peacekeeping.
