Champion Aerospace had its beginnings as Champion Spark Plug Co. in the early 1900s, very shortly after the Wright brothers made history with the first ever flight in North Carolina. Champion Spark Plug Co. produced automotive spark plugs for single ignition systems in planes and later produced plugs that were used in engines of US planes during World War I. By the 1920s and 1930s, Champion was developing spark plugs for the whole aviation industry. Between 1941 and 1945 during World War II, Champion was the primary supplier of spark plugs for the US military and Allied forces. More recently, the company completed an expansion of its South Carolina manufacturing facility worth $10 million. They also become the only supplier for Rolls Royce and SNECMA for the Concorde Olympus engine. Champion Aerospace earned ISO 9001 certification as well. The company was incorporated 11 years ago in Cleveland, Ohio and the current president and CEO is Nicholas Howley.
