Bombardier Delivers First CSeries To SWISS

Bombardier the Canadian aerospace company has reached a major milestone today in regards to the CSeries family aircraft program with the official delivery to launch operator SWISS for the first of the 30 airliners as part of a historic deal.

The delivery took place amongst SWISS and Bombardier employees intermingled with media and government representatives as well as other suppliers on the premises of the manufacturer in Montreal, Canada.

Thomas Klühr, the Chief Executive Officer of SWISS proclaimed,

SWISS is proud to be the first airline to take title of the CSeries (…) The aircraft performed exceptionally well during its acceptance flight, as expected.

Just last March, Bombardier and SWISS carried out a 3-week long route-proving campaign in Europe. The purpose of this campaign, which included flights to several major cities, was to provide invaluable data on the behavior/performance of the new jetliner as well as stress test it under a typical airline schedule to and from the various airports across the major cities.

Kluhr believes that the CSeries fleet will allow SWISS to tailor their capacity to demand on the routes with the first scheduled SWISS CS100 flight to take place on July 16th, 2016 to Paris-Charles de Gaulle from Zurich. President of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, Fred Cromer described the milestone during the handover ceremony as a “significant moment” for the airframer” and specifically credits the dedication of both SWISS and Bombardier’s employees “to designing, building, marketing and defining the flight network for the CSeries aircraft as the first right-sized aircraft in the 100- to 150-seat market segment in nearly 30 years.”

At one point this would have been unfathomable due to the cost-overruns and a delayed production schedule that was two years behind. However the establishment of a partnership with the Quebec government along with two landmark orders from Delta Air Lines for 75 CS100s and Air Canada for 75 CS300s has all but secured the necessary funding from the program to continue as intended. Rob Dewar, the Vice President of the CSeries Aircraft Program at Bombardier Commercial Aircraft beamed as he announced how proud he was of the achievement given the rarity of a new aircraft program like the CSeries aircraft comes around.
