Boeing and Embraer Collaborate on ecoDemonstrator Technology

Boeing and Embraer have decided to collaborate on ecoDemonstrator technology that would support the KC-390 program, the companies announced at the beginning of July 2015.

They signed a memorandum of understanding at the Brazil-US Business Summit. Embraer CEO and President Frederico Curado and Marc Allen, president of Boeing International, were on hand to close the agreement. Under this pact, Embraer Aircraft Company will use the KC-390 as an ecoDemonstrator platform sometime next year.

The ecoDemonstrator program can make it possible to reduce fuel use, carbon emissions, and noise. Boeing has been implementing these tactics since 2011 on aircraft such as the 737, 787 Dreamliner, and 757.

The program is a win-win in both companies’ eyes, as it helps everyone not only financially, but also makes the world a greener place.

"The ecoDemonstrator program offers a new and valuable opportunity for collaboration between our companies to boost environmental development tests, benefiting customers, our industry and the society,” said Embraer President and CEO Frederico Curado.

Previously, Boeing has worked on eco-friendly technologies such as “bug-phobic” wing coatings, which help improve aerodynamic efficiency by lessening the residue left behind by bug hits.

Both manufacturers have been working together since 2012. Their goal has been to improve runway safety and support Embraer’s KC-390 defense aircraft program, one of the more important military transport planes around.
