Airbus Enters Agreement with Cathay Pacific Airways For New Fleet

Today Airbus has announced that they have entered into a flight hour service (FHS) components support agreement with Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways for their new fleet of A350 XWBs currently on order. The agreement includes 22 A350-900s and 26 A350-1000s which totals 48 A350 XWBs. Under the expressed long-term agreement Airbus industries will provide Cathay Pacific’s main base with spare parts, maintenance, logistics services and flight simulator support. Furthermore planning of the airline’s A350 XWB expendables inventories are being outsourced to Satair Group who is Airbus’s materials management subsidiary along with all the purchasing and planning of the integrated material services (IMS). Engineering Director of Cathay Pacific Airways Christopher Gibbs believes that a smooth entry-into-service for the A350 XWB widebody fleet will be paramount to Catha Pacifics’s success in a fast growing and highly competitive market, especially with the first aircraft just now undergoing assembly in Toulouse.

Additionally Gibbs intimates that he is confident that Airbus’ tailored and cost-effective FHS support services will enable Cathay Pacific Airways to deliver industry-leading performance for their A350 operations from inception. The A350 XWB programme had secured 777 firm orders from 41 customers worldwide by the end of February culminating in just a shade under 40% which were intended for the Asia-Pacific region. With Cathay Pacific representing nearly one fifth of all the A350 XWB total orders from Asia-Pacific, Airbus FHS contracts have now been selected to cover more than 240 aircraft, from the A320 to the A330, A380 and lastly the A350 XWB. Airbus also extends its 'Services by Airbus' programme which provides end-to-end fleet lifecycle solutions to all of its customers. This extensive portfolio not only covers standalone services, complete integrated solutions but includes training, engineering and maintenance, flight hour and tailored support packages, flight operations air traffic management, upgrades, e-solutions and material management services. Last February Airbus signed a flight hour services, tailored support package (FHSTSP) contract with Singapore Airlines (SIA). This agreement pledged Airbus’ support in integrating and providing full component support, offers line and base airframe maintenance, and finally fleet technical management services for all of SSIA’s 19 A380s.
