Component with an electrical resistance that remains constant regardless of the applied voltage or current flowing through the device. Employed to protect, operate, or control the circuit. They are designed to present little variation in electrical resistance when subjected to changing temperature and other environmental factors. Resistors are used to step up or lower the voltage at different points in a circuit and to transform a current signal into a voltage signal or vice versa, among other uses. Resistors are often made out of chunks of carbon or thin films of carbon or other resistive materials. They can also be made of wires wound around a cylinder. Resistors are used as part of electrical networks and incorporated into microelectronic semiconductor devices.
