AMD Reveals Ryzen, The New Name for Their Next Get CPU

On December 14 2016, there was an article posted on Techspot India by Tim Schiesser talking about how AMD parts supplier is releasing their next gen CPY called Ryzen. This is set to launch quarter one of 2017. This was announced at the Tech Summit in California 2016.

The Ryzen platform will use something called the ‘Summit Ridge’ which has 8 cores and 16 threads including a base clock of a minimum of 3.4 GHz. There will also be a 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache at the high end.

In terms of comparison, the Intel core i7 6900k is similar in a sense that it has 8 cores and 16 threads and can clock anywhere from 3.2 to 3.7 GHz.

AMD’s Summit Ridge is able to outperform the i7 6900k during the rendering by a second or so. The Summit ridge also uses 305 watts less total system power than the i7 6900k. AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that there will be a 40% improvement in IPC compared to their lat generation products at the same level of power consumption.
